The 100th Post! The Blog So Far…

Here we are: the all important 100th post.

img_7398I debated what type of blog post this should be – it had to be something special.  Should I write about an awesome movie, a fun convention, a book I couldn’t put down?  But then I thought: this blog started out as a way to get me back into writing, so why not make my 100th post about writing this blog?

When I first decided to write a blog, it was for a number of different reasons.  I was in the process of getting over a few bad years of mental health and wanted to get back in to all of my old hobbies.  And I was working a job that made me miserable and I wanted to take steps towards getting into a career that involved writing.  A blog is a great way to build a portfolio, as I soon found out.

But I never ended up getting a job in my chosen field, and a desire to pay my bills meant that I took whatever work came my way.  And although I have met and worked with some fantastic people, and learned a lot from the jobs and contract work I’ve done, the goal has always been to get myself a job that involves writing.  So I kept up with the blog as best I could – which was not as often as I would have liked back when I was working multiple jobs.  But once I went back to working one job and was no longer over-exhausting myself, it was easy to get back into writing.

This whole project has evolved over the past 99 posts from what I thought it would be, to what is has ended up becoming.  I didn’t originally know what I wanted to write a blog about, just that I wanted to write a blog. I just decided to write a little bit about everything. That is still the case, but the majority of my posts have ended up being about tv and movies.  I was not really expecting that when I first started.

img_7478At the time, I thought that writing the blog from the point of view of Yarn Monster Cosplay would be a good way to bring on readers who were already familiar with my creative side and who could be lured in with the promise of posts about my cosplays.  But cosplay has never been my main hobby, and although I enjoy it immensely I am not looking to gain cosplay fame.  The more I write, the more I want this blog to showcase my writing, not my costumes.  And I’ve reached the point in my life where I want to treat my writing as a career, not just a pastime.

So stay tuned – there may be some rebranding in store for me.  This blog might just end up being written by “Stephanie” instead of “Yarn Monster”.  And I plan to keep writing about the same eclectic medley of topics, but I find that I keep wanting to challenge myself with new styles and different post formats.  So some things may change and some things may stay the same, but this has always been a “go-with-the-flow” kind of project for me anyway.  Thank you to everyone who has continued to read my blog since I started, and thank you to the new readers I have gained along the way.  Here’s to the next 100 posts! I can’t wait to see how they turn out 🙂

P.S. Spoiler Alert – Shark Week is coming up FAST.  Expect to see some shark-themed posts over the next week
