What A Lovely Way To End A Spooktacular Month

img_8110Over the past few years, I have become more and more involved in the behind the scenes work of the “Heroes and Villains” Halloween party, so I am incredibly biased when I say that this is the best Halloween party in town. This year’s theme “What a Lovely Dystopia” was tons of fun and was, once again, held at The Bourbon Room. The venue was filled with post-apocalyptic “garbage” and a menacing looking Sentinel hovered above the dance floor. Normally there’s at least one featured cocktail that I’m not a fan of, but this year I enjoyed all three of the drinks: Soylent Green (it was obviously made of people), the Merovingian (my favourite of the night), and Girl on Fire (this one had a nice kick). And, of course, Richard Dufault of Open Shutter Photography was there to take stellar pictures.  The  best part of all? The cosplayers, obviously! I’m so glad I ended up helping Mark work the door for most of the night because it meant I got a chance to see every single one of the spectacularly dystopic cosplays.  I had so much fun chatting with awesome cosplayers and admiring everyone’s hard work.  Once again, Critical Miss and Retro Joad delivered an absolutely lovely Halloween party.

This party was the perfect way to end what has been one of the most intense Octobers I have had in a while.  I wore more costumes, watched more movies, and had lots of fun.  Over the course of my Spooktober movie marathon I watched a total of 4 tv seasons of two different shows, read 5 books, watched 1 music video, and watched a grand total of 78 movies! So, without further ado, here is Yarn Monster’s Spooktacular Top 10:

Favourite Remake of a Classic – A Nightmare on Elm Street

Favourite Classic – The Omen

Favourite Newer/Recent Film – Hereditary

Favourite Horror Comedy – Little Monsters

Favourite Animated Film – Garfield’s Halloween Adventure

Favourite Family Friendly Spooky Movie – Hocus Pocus

Favourite Slasher Movie – A Nightmare on Elm Street (original classic)

Favourite TV Season – Van Helsing Season 2

Favourite Netflix Film – In the Tall Grass

Favourite Book – The Exorcist

Even with all of the spookiness I’ve put myself through this past month, I’m already thinking about which horror movies I want to watch to tide me over until next year’s Halloween.  I had a great time indulging my spooky side, and ending it all with the best Halloween party in town was a great way to make this a memorable Spooktober.  Hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween!
