From Author To Party Planner: March 2024 Writing Update

As I’m writing this, I’m on the verge of tears and I feel like my heart is going to explode out of my chest. But this is all good. No, seriously – this is happy stress.

If you’ve seen my endless social media posts, you’re likely already aware of my upcoming Skull Daddy Book Launch Party & Night Market. For the past few weeks, I’ve been more of a businesswoman than an author. While Skull Daddy is in the hands of my copy editor, and Emily is busy working on the cover art, party planning is about all I can do for this project. And yes, I get emotional each time I see that an artist has applied to the Night Market. Imagine how much I’ll be crying during the actual event! (Seriously, I will have to invest in waterproof eye makeup).

Side note: applications for the Night Market will stay open until all the spots are filled

But I have been working on other projects! After the big catastrophe in January, I finally started tackling The Tunnel again. Draft 5 is so much stronger and I am really happy with the changes I’ve been making. I’ve been killing my darlings left and right, cutting things that detract from the story. And I’ve been beefing up the horror. I’m doing some very terrible things to this fictional group of teenagers, gifting each one of them with a little bit of my anxieties and traumas.

But once Draft 5 is done, I don’t think there will be anything else I can do to the story until I get a fresh pair of eyes on it. It won’t be long until I’m bugging Trevor to read it and give me his thoughts before I move on to the next steps. (And fans of the podcast, fear not – we do have another episode coming out in the near future).

And in the midst of all of this, I’ve been adding more silly little horror stories to Flasher and applying to more and more in-person events. And, most importantly, I’ve been planning for THE BIG BOOK PURGE at Square Lemon’s April 21st art market. To say I’ve been keeping busy is an understatement. Maybe I need a vacation… Nah.
