New Year, Same Horrors: My January Writing Update

How has only one month gone by?

Seriously. How?

Technically, January is the end of my slow season. But as it’s the beginning of a new year it also means A LOT of prep work for, well, the coming year.

Even though I’ll be cutting down on in-person events this year due to my health and other personal reasons, I’ve still been sending out emails and applications so that I can book at least 1 event per month. With the exception of January and December of this year (which I always try to give myself off from events), so far there’s only one month left where I don’t have something booked/pending. Not bad.

And because I can’t attend ALL of the events that I want to this year, I am being very particular about what I sign up for. I had already decided that I wanted to prioritize book specific events over art markets, and my calendar currently reflects that. Although I do hope that I’ll be able to add some art markets back in to my schedule in 2027.

In-person events aren’t the only things I’ve been planning. I’ve been chatting with some very interesting people about book signings, fundraisers, and more! But most importantly, I’ve been chatting with some of my favourite artists about bookmarks and cover art. Obviously, I’m not going to give away all of the juicy secrets just yet, but I will say this: there is some AMAZING artwork coming your way, so keep an eye out.

“But what about writing?” I hear you ask. Of course I got writing done this month. I’m even ahead of schedule! Not only is GOATS coming out tomorrow, but I had a great time working on Skull Daddy: Mother/Father. I got through 2 rounds of self-editing on my Skull Daddy sequel and set it off to beta readers much sooner than expected! (and depending on when you’re reading this post, applications might still be open – check out my linktree on social media)

So, what will I do next month? With GOATS out in the world and Skull Daddy: Mother/Father in the hands of beta readers, what’s left for me to do? Well, I’ll be getting a started on one of my Throckmorton projects! It’s a spooky story I wrote back in 2019 that was never quite dark enough for Stephanie Anne to publish – put it’s perfect for Throcky and the Keyboard Cats. Make sure to follow that social account if you want updates on my less disturbing projects.

Until next time, stay spooky!

(P.S. Yes, I am taking time off for my birthday. I promise. With everything going on this year I am determined not to burn out. I even bought snacks. Lots and lots of snacks… I mean, I’m only going to turn 35 once so I think I deserve those 3 bags of chips I brought home. No, I’m not sharing. Get out of here! Get your own chips.)
