The Good, The Bad, And The B*tthole: March Writing Update

How do you expect me to snap a pic of Janey committing atrocities and NOT find a way to use it for my blog post?! I mean, come on. Cat-astrophes aside, this has actually been a really good month. So, let’s break it down!

Skull Daddy II: Mother/Father:

  • The Good: Not only did I receive beta reader feedback FROM EVERY SINGLE BETA READER (no one ghosted me this time – a miracle!) but all of the feedback has been top notch. And my favourite cover artist Emily Bain sent me some mock-ups to choose from! After an agonizing debate with Mark (he raised some good points, I just had a hard time deciding), I picked the version I loved the most and Emily is hard at work on that cover art as we speak.
  • The Bad: I was ahead of schedule with this title, but now I am not. Sometimes it be like that.
  • The Butthole: Yes, Janey has been screaming at me just as much during the writing and editing of Skull Daddy II as she did with Modern Hauntings. That’s a sign it’s going to be a good book, right?

Throckmorton:

  • The Good: The cats look great on social media, don’t they?
  • The Bad: I’m so behind. Seriously, don’t talk to me about it. Don’t even look at me I was hoping to go to beta by now but that is absolutely not happening.
  • The Butthole: But what about those cat pics, huh?

Events & Bookstores:

  • The Good: The Unbound: Indie Lit Market is happening this weekend and there’s a fantastic lineup of authors and vendors coming together. AND Peggy Blair of Rebound Press handed off the Books on Tap event to me – I have plans to grow it, of course.
  • The Bad: Less than a week after becoming the new organizer of Books on Tap, we lost our venue (this seems familiar… maybe there’s a Skull Daddy curse hanging around me). Thankfully, I managed to secure a new venue and Beyond the Pale will be hosting.
  • The Butthole: Immediately after the cats finished inspecting my most recent book order, I got bookstore restock requests! So if you buy any of my books in store, you can rest easy knowing they passed the sniff test.

Personal:

  • The Good: After waiting even longer than my doctor predicted, I finally have a CT scan booked!
  • The Bad: My POS father tried reaching out AGAIN (guess I didn’t block all his email addresses). No contact means no contact and I’ve moved on with my life.
  • The Butthole: Apart from yesterday’s stinky incident, the cats have been very well behaved. Janey turned 3 at the beginning of this month and Minerva will be 12 in less than a week!
